Ring Size Converter

Convert a ring's inner circumference or diameter in mm to DE/ISO, US and UK ring sizes.

วิธีใช้ Ring Size

  1. 01

Choose whether you're entering the inner circumference or the inner diameter, in mm.

  2. 02

Wrap a strip of paper around the finger, mark the overlap, and measure that length in mm. Or measure the inner diameter of a ring that already fits.

  3. 03

Read the DE/ISO, US and UK sizes below.

The DE/ISO size is the circumference, not a code

Most size converters treat the German or ISO number as just another scale to translate. It isn't one: ISO 8653:2016 defines the size as the ring's inner circumference in millimetres. A size 54 ring measures 54 mm around the inside, full stop.

That means a German or European shopper does not need this tool to find their own size: it is already printed as a physical measurement on the sizer or the receipt. What they, and everyone else, need help with is translating that measurement into the US numeric scale or the UK letter scale, which is what this tool is for.

How to measure a ring size

The most reliable method uses a strip of paper or string. Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger the ring will sit on, mark the point where it overlaps itself, then lay it flat and measure the marked length with a ruler in millimetres. That figure is the inner circumference.

If you already own a ring that fits well, you can measure its inner diameter instead: lay it flat and measure straight across the inside, then switch this tool to diameter mode.

Measure a warm finger, not a cold one. Fingers are noticeably smaller in the cold or first thing in the morning, and larger later in the day or after exercise, so a size taken from a cold finger will tend to run small once you're warm.

Why US and UK sizes need converting and DE doesn't

The US scale is a numbered sequence and the UK scale is a letter sequence, A to Z and beyond, both defined as linear functions of the same circumference. This tool applies those exact formulas to whatever measurement you enter, then snaps the US figure to the nearest quarter, the steps the US scale is defined in, showing the exact value alongside it.

The catch is the source charts: different jewellers' UK letter tables disagree by around half a millimetre in where they start, even though they agree on the step size between letters. That is a real disagreement in the industry's own reference material, not a rounding error in this tool. Treat a borderline size as a strong estimate, and confirm it in person, ideally with a jeweller's finger sizer, before you buy.

คำถามที่พบบ่อย

What is the DE or ISO ring size?

It is the inner circumference of the ring in millimetres, defined that way by ISO 8653:2016. Size 54 means the ring's inner edge measures exactly 54 mm around. There is no conversion involved for a German user: the number on a German size chart already is the circumference, which is exactly why this tool exists to translate it into US and UK sizes instead.

How do I measure my ring size at home?

Wrap a strip of paper or string around the base of your finger, mark where it overlaps itself, then lay it flat and measure the length in millimetres. That is your inner circumference. Alternatively, if a ring already fits, measure the inside diameter with a ruler and switch the tool to diameter mode.

Why does it matter if my finger is warm or cold?

Fingers swell and shrink through the day and with temperature: a cold finger measures noticeably smaller than the same finger warm. Measure at room temperature, ideally in the evening, and avoid measuring right after being outside in the cold or after exercise, or the size you get will run small.

Why do UK letter sizes vary between charts?

Because the sources themselves disagree. UK size charts differ by around half a millimetre in where they place letter A, even though they agree on the 1.25 mm step between letters. This tool uses a self-consistent linear scale, but a borderline size should still be confirmed in person, ideally with a jeweller's ring sizer.

What do the two numbers under the US size mean?

The larger number is the US size snapped to the nearest quarter, which is how the US scale is defined, unlike the whole-number DE/ISO and UK scales. The figure underneath is the unrounded value straight from the formula, before snapping, so it can fall slightly above or below the size shown. If that exact value sits close to the boundary between two quarter sizes, ask a jeweller whether they stock the size in between.

Is my measurement uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion is arithmetic that runs in your browser, so nothing you enter is sent to a server.
