Frequently asked questions
Spain has three IVA rates in 2026. The general rate is 21 % and applies to most goods and services. The reducido rate is 10 % and covers hospitality, passenger transport, housing, and non-essential foods. The superreducido rate is 4 % and applies to basic foods (bread, milk, eggs, fruit, vegetables), books, and medicines.
The base imponible is the price before IVA. IVA is calculated on the base imponible. The total price (precio con IVA) is the base plus the IVA amount.
Divide the total price by (1 + rate/100). At 21 %: base = total / 1.21. At 10 %: base = total / 1.10. At 4 %: base = total / 1.04. This calculator does the division for you.
Yes. The rates shown (21 %, 10 %, 4 %) are the standard Spanish IVA rates for mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands. The Canary Islands, Ceuta, and Melilla have different indirect tax regimes.
This calculator applies the three Spanish IVA rates for 2026. Enter a base imponible to compute the IVA amount and total, or enter a total to extract the base imponible.
