How the calculator works
Enter your average monthly net pay and the calculator splits the maternity pay into the health insurer share (up to 13 EUR per day) and the employer top-up that brings you back to your full net. It then totals both over the protection period.
Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
Insurer plus employer
Mutterschaftsgeld and the employer top-up are designed to keep your net pay whole during Mutterschutz. The insurer covers the first 13 EUR per calendar day and the employer covers the rest, so a higher salary means a larger employer share.
Estimate, not legal advice
This uses your stated net and the standard rules; your insurer and employer calculate the binding amounts from your payslips. Treat the result as a guide, not legal advice.
Frequently asked questions
How much is Mutterschaftsgeld?
The statutory health insurer pays your recent net wage, but no more than 13 EUR per calendar day (Paragraph 24i SGB V). For a full month that is up to about 390 EUR.
What is the employer top-up (Arbeitgeberzuschuss)?
Your employer pays the difference between the 13 EUR daily insurer amount and your average net daily wage, so together they replace your full previous net pay (Paragraph 20 MuSchG). There is a top-up only when your net is above about 390 EUR per month.
How is my daily net calculated?
It is your net pay of the last 3 settled calendar months before the protection period, divided by 90, which is the same as your average monthly net divided by 30.
What if I am privately or family insured?
Then you do not get the 13 EUR daily amount from a statutory insurer. You receive a one-time maximum of 210 EUR from the Bundesamt, and the employer top-up is calculated differently. This calculator covers the common statutory-insurance case.
