Code 128 Barcode Generator
Generate dense Code 128 barcodes for SKUs, serials, and logistics labels, single or in bulk, as PNG or SVG.
كيفية استخدام Code 128
- 01
Enter any text: letters, digits, punctuation and spaces are all supported.
- 02
Set length, height and margin in millimetres, and choose whether the text prints under the bars.
- 03
Download as PNG or SVG, or paste a list to generate a whole batch at once.
Full ASCII, one barcode
The Code 128 standard covers all 128 ASCII characters, and this generator accepts the printable range: uppercase and lowercase letters, digits, spaces and punctuation. That flexibility is why it covers most identifiers a business actually uses, whether that is an alphanumeric SKU, a serial number with a letter prefix, or a purely numeric tracking code.
It shows up most often on SKUs, serial numbers and logistics labels precisely because it does not force the content into a narrow character set the way older formats do, and it stays compact even as the content gets longer.
Subsets A, B, C and density
Internally, Code 128 has three character subsets. Subset A handles uppercase letters, digits and control characters, subset B handles upper and lowercase letters, digits and punctuation, and subset C packs digits two at a time into a single symbol instead of one digit per symbol. A barcode can switch subsets partway through if that produces a shorter result, and this generator handles that switching automatically.
Subset C is what makes Code 128 the densest common 1D barcode for numeric content: two digits per symbol beats the one-character-per-symbol encoding that older formats like Code 39 use, and Code 39 also needs a wider gap between characters. The practical effect is that a given number of digits takes noticeably less label width in Code 128 than in Code 39.
GS1-128 and printing labels
GS1-128, sometimes still called UCC/EAN-128, is Code 128 combined with a special leading character and a defined set of application identifiers that structure the data into fields like batch number, expiry date or quantity. This generator produces plain Code 128 from the text you enter and does not add that leading character or parse application identifiers, so it is not a substitute for a dedicated GS1-128 label tool.
For printing, an SVG download stays sharp at any size, which suits label design software and large print runs, while PNG is simpler for quick use in office documents. Whichever format you use, leave a clear quiet zone around the bars and check that the label size matches your printer's resolution, since thin bars printed too small can blur into each other.
الأسئلة الشائعة
What can Code 128 encode?
The Code 128 standard covers all 128 ASCII characters, which is where the name comes from. This tool accepts the printable range: uppercase and lowercase letters, digits, punctuation and spaces. That is why Code 128 works for almost any short string, from a SKU to a tracking number to a serial code with mixed-case letters.
What are subsets A, B and C?
Code 128 has three internal character subsets. Subset A covers uppercase letters, digits and control characters, subset B covers upper and lowercase letters, digits and punctuation, and subset C packs digits two at a time into a single symbol, which is what makes long numeric strings so compact. The generator switches between subsets automatically to produce the shortest valid code for whatever you type, so you never choose a subset yourself.
How dense is Code 128 compared to Code 39?
Code 128 is generally the densest common 1D barcode, especially for numeric content, because subset C encodes two digits per symbol where Code 39 needs one symbol per character and also requires a wider gap between characters. A run of digits that fits in a short Code 128 label can need close to twice the width in Code 39.
Is this the same as GS1-128?
Not quite. GS1-128 (formerly UCC/EAN-128) is Code 128 used with a leading FNC1 character and structured application identifiers, such as batch numbers, expiry dates or serial numbers, packed into the data. This tool generates plain Code 128 from whatever text you enter; it does not add FNC1 characters or parse application identifiers, so building GS1-128 labels is outside its scope.
Can I print these labels directly?
Yes. Download the code as an SVG for label software and print runs that need a sharp result at any size, or as a PNG for quick use in documents, spreadsheets or simple label templates. Keep a clear quiet zone around the bars and match the label to the printer's resolution so thin bars do not blur together.
