Frequently asked questions

What is the media ponderata?

It is the weighted average of your exam grades, where each grade is multiplied by its CFU (academic credits) and the sum is divided by total CFU. Exams with more credits count more. The thesis is excluded from this average.

How is the voto di partenza calculated?

The voto di partenza is: round(media ponderata x 110 / 30). For a media of 28.00 the result is round(102.67) = 103.

When can 110 e lode be awarded?

When the uncapped sum of voto di partenza, thesis points and bonus reaches 113 or above, the commission may award 110 e lode. The final decision rests with the examining commission.

Are the ECTS and GPA values official?

No. They are common approximations. Foreign universities and employers use their own official conversion tables. Each Italian ateneo also has its own regolamento for thesis and bonus points.

About this tool

This calculator converts Italian exam grades (trentesimi) to the 110-scale degree grade used by Italian universities: it computes the CFU-weighted average, applies the official conversion formula, adds thesis points and bonus, and shows the final voto di laurea.

It also shows approximate ECTS letter grades and US GPA equivalences as a reference for international students and applicants. All calculations run in your browser; no data is sent to any server.
