Urlaubsgeld Calculator (Holiday Bonus, Net)

Work out the net of your German Urlaubsgeld (holiday bonus) after income tax and social contributions, from your monthly salary and the gross bonus.

How to use the Urlaubsgeld Calculator

  1. 01

Enter your monthly gross salary and tax class.

  2. 02

Enter the gross Urlaubsgeld, or use a preset share of a month's pay.

  3. 03

See the tax, the social contributions, and the net that is left.

How the calculator works

Enter your monthly gross and the gross Urlaubsgeld. The tool treats the bonus as a one-time payment and runs the official salary calculation to work out the income tax and social contributions on it, then shows the net.

Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

A bonus, not vacation pay

Urlaubsgeld is extra money for the holidays and is voluntary. It is not the same as Urlaubsentgelt, which is your regular salary that simply continues while you are on leave. This calculator is for the bonus.

Estimate, not tax advice

Figures use statutory health insurance, the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen, and 2026 values, and depend on your full year. Your payslip sets the binding amount. Treat this as a guide, not advice.

Frequently asked questions

Is Urlaubsgeld required by law?

No. Urlaubsgeld is a voluntary holiday bonus that comes from a collective agreement (Tarifvertrag), a works agreement, or the employer. There is no statutory amount, so enter the gross that applies to you. It is different from Urlaubsentgelt, which is your normal pay that continues during vacation.

How is Urlaubsgeld taxed?

It is a one-time payment (sonstiger Bezug), taxed by the annual method: it is added to your yearly wage and the extra tax is worked out on top. Because of the progressive tax curve, the rate on the bonus is often higher than on a normal month.

Are social contributions due on Urlaubsgeld?

Yes, unless you already earn above the contribution ceilings. The bonus is added to your annual pay for contributions up to the yearly BBG, so a high salary may mean fewer or no contributions on the bonus.

How much Urlaubsgeld is common?

There is no fixed rule. Collective agreements often set it as a percentage of monthly pay or a fixed amount per vacation day. The preset buttons apply a share of a month's salary as a starting point.
